2 Days of work to go then back on a plane!

YAY! Uber excited as we head to NZ on Wednesday for a few days with the Chetwynd crew. First time in 5 years the whole fam will be together for Christmas.. Then half way through Christmas day we jump a plane to the Goldcoast to spend the rest of the day with the Fougere side! And Bri & Sim are there already.. It's shaping up to be fun fun fun.. On the 31st December we get to host 2 very special guests, Sim & Bri, in Melbourne for New Years and a few days after.. Can't wait! In usual Sim style we're already hooked up with somewhere to go.. I'm glad someone is organised!

Hope everyone has finished their shopping and getting ready for some festive silliness.

Happy Friday!

Yay, another Friday rolls around... I'm excited cos we went 'tourist' and booked ourselves in for a weekend away exploring the beautiful state we live in, Victoria. We're getting picked up BrIgHt & EaRLy Saturday morning to go check out Bells Beach where we'll hang with the Ex-Presidents & catch the 50 year storm in full swing. Hmmm..Then on to the Grampians, which are a mountain range, for some hiking & exploring..Will find out more about them soon! We stay the night up there and then Sunday we'll cruise the Great Ocean Rd and check out how many of the Twelve Apostles are still standing.. And to anyone that's hassled us for doing a backpacker trip when we actually live here, how many of you guys have actually seen these places?!! hehe.

Rock on this weekend whatever you're doing - Happy Friday!

Area 51 Agents spotted at Melbourne party...

2 Area 51 Agents were spotted at a Melbourne party on the weekend. Witnesses said they were seen to be transporting 2 strange green glowing boxes. The contents of the boxes is unkown but onlookers suspect it is alien life form remains.... Some photos of the pair were taken but local authorities were quick to take the films from photographers...

Standby for black market photo releases.

Sunny dayz

Well here I (Nic) am, back up on the Gold Coast for a week and a half. I just spent a week with Richie down in Melbourne helping set up our new place and explore the city. I have been a little sad about the idea of setting up all over again.. I suppose we both have. We both miss our buddies back in London so much, and just our buddies that are scattered everywhere else.. I know, I know, we do it to ourselves.. But anyways, by the end of my week down there I was cruising around like I owned the place, well, sort of.. Not really cruising as I managed to do something strange to a ligament in my ankle and now I can hardly walk so am fighting with some crutches on and off.. Very bizarre. I'm sure it's nothing though, after all, I didn't actually do anything to it! hmm..

So Rich flies up here tonight and 2 of his mates Mark & John are arriving tomorrow morning from NZ for a week of surfing and fun.. Should be very cool. Plus Reuben & Janene are here until Monday so I'm trying to hook up with them today.. All good.. I'm sure Rich doesn't mind doing a 3 week on, 1 week off work thang.. hehe, not at all..

I'm job hunting at the moment, actually managed to go to a job interview with Comic Relief on Monday just before I flew back up here. I'm crossing my fingers as it's a 3 month contract so would be perfect timing for both of us as Rich's finishes end of year too... So that's all our news..

Hope you're all happy & healthy wherever you are.. We really miss you guys & think about you lots.. (especially Sim & Bri xx)

Sun is shining, weather is sweet, make you wanna move your dancin' feet...

We got an apartment!

Coolio, looks like we're all set! It looks like a warehouse apartment from the photos I've seen and Rich picks up the keys on Saturday -We got a home! It is very open plan so any peeps planning to come stay must be prepared to shed their inhibitions (and get involved in all sorts of brazen adventures & naughtiness)!! hahaha. And it's right bang smack in the middle of the city.. After a night spent packing box after box & not much sleep, our precious boxes of goodies have been picked up & will be on the Great Ocean Road sometime soon! And Rich gets the fun of unpacking and decorating when they arrive.. Man, wish I was there :o( eh - soon enuff..

And a BIG YIPPEE KAY-YAY to SWEET MAYHEM for a sterling performance at Bestival over the weekend, so we hear - you little ripper! Miss you kids..

Right, I'm off to walk the dog in the sun..

WOWEEE we are SO naughty!

Goshkas, it's been 1 month & 3 days since our last update.. We've seen so many new things and a few new changes have happened..

First of all our trip to New Zealand & Fiji was AWESOME.. New Zealand was it's usual hectic-ness of catching up with everyone we could, going mountain biking, going up the Sky Tower (my first time & a newly acquired fear of heights made it pretty terrifying), going out to Muriwai, all sorts of stuff - not to forget eating lots of pies.. haha..

But Fiji was magical. Waya Island in the Yasawas was absolutely pristine and pretty much deserted - what more could you ask for?? We stayed with the rest of the wedding guests (about 40) at the Octopus Resort which is a bit of an eco-lodge type of thing, all solar powered with snorkelling to die for right off the beach.. The island only has 3 local villages on it and just the one place to stay. It made for a killer setting for Andy & Margaret's wedding, which was held on the beach under an arch of flowers with a Fijian choir singing standing out on the rocks, all over the noise of crashing waves.. It was beautiful & the party that followed was heaps of fun.. We got to catch up with some old faces from the UK - Tony, Brad, Diane, and the infamous Kent Johns were all there in fine form, not to mention Marg & Andy. We went scuba diving one day, snorkelling the next, hiked to the nearby village, played beach volleyball, swam & swam, experienced quite a few cava ceremonies & meke dances along with some of the most amazing scenery you can imagine.. Ahh to be back on the island.. So - if you can't already guess, it comes highly recommended to check out if you are heading that way.

Now, to the new news.. We're going to have to take back the earlier invitation we sent out to come and visit us on the Gold Coast. Our plans have changed. Rich was offered a good job down in Melbourne last week, and he accepted & already left last Thursday.. So, I decided I'd stick around here with ma & pa, help out around the place, for a few weeks then head down. Rich has to come back up at the end of the month anyways as he's got mates coming to visit him here, so we'll go back down to Melbourne together afterwards..

I CAN'T WAIT! Very exciting times.. The contract is just for 4 months, until the end of the year so we will see how we go.. So now, a new invitation:

Our home in Melbourne (when we find one!) will be open to our friends at all times so please feel free to fire us an email, or call, if you're heading this way - or even if you weren't, but think you will now.. Stop by!

So, I'm on a job hunt now. Rich is already loving it down there, it sounds like a mini-London but with water.. hmm, interesting because that's what I always thought London lacked.. Melbourne should be perfect!

Oh oh oh... hang on...

heres the website.... www.bestival.net... so no excuses...

dunc would be proud!

ps... we are currently considering any hair brain schemes to raise cash to make it over for the festival, robbing banks etc... so if you have any ideas or any rich friends or just want to sponsor us over there... get in touch..

Round and Round the mulberry bush....

Well well well.... Congratulations to Mr & Mrs Smith... an amazing wedding, beautiful back drop, food to die for and that guy Jack Daniels hanging around again.... awesome... we wish them all the best!!

Anyways... weve had a minor change in plans and cut the Port Douglas trip a couple of days short to make a pit stop back into the Gold Coast for a few nights to see Nics dad after he had a weeeeee operation... he's ok and will be right back on track flying planes etc before long...

So once again we get to leave the Gold Coast.. but this time for New Zealand... we will be arriving Wednesday 10th August in the evening... were around for about a week so hope to catch up with all our buddies back there, sneak in a game of golf, roll some jaffas down the aisle (or tangy fruits if you prefer!) and munch back a killer thai feed at Mai Thai in Auckland... Ive been telling Schnicken how killer this place is for so long now... it better still deliver the goods....

Ok.. thats it... im sinkin in to a vino as i type and need to give it more of the attention it needs... hahaha...

adios amigos!!....

Finally...after 8 months of looking...across 3 continents..

We found a cool 'P.I.C' ring! (Partners In Crime, still disliking the engagement word) We don't think there'll be any other rings so it was a big deal.

VERY EXCITING DAY indeed..Well, we're both just super happy to have finally got that bit out of the way.. Up on realising I would be wearing this ring for a looooooong time, I became much fussier than I thought I was ("It's gotta be flat, can't be gold, nothing too flashy, something different, something colourful, something earthy, it's gotta have a peridot"..and the list went on...).

So. its a funky little white gold band with a line of peridots across the centre (olive green semi-precious gems) & some little diamonds top & bottom.

kinda like this but not so flashy.
Same Same but different...

It's being made in Melbourne I think so we won't have it in our hot little paws until mid-September.

I love it. So now we're on the hunt for something for Rich... It's not fair if I'm the only one getting something!!

And so... we're off on another mission.. Watch this space cos in another 8 months he might just have found something! hahaha..were hopeless

Howdy from the Gold Coast, OZ

Naughty little slackers!!! We haven't updated the website yet since we've arrived & it’s been 5 days already!

Well, the big news in my world is: I got a Mini Mal! So we been hitting the surf every morning, I suck but am trying really, really hard to master the art of standing up, at least! Rich is being a very patient Sensei.. Out again at 9 tomorrow morning. It's winter here (between 14- 25 degrees Celsius so not reeeeeeeeeally, compared to London) so there isn't tooooo much incentive for me to get out there as I don't have a wetsuit..It's cold - darn tootin!! Especially when the wind blows. Rich has a wetsuit - and he wonders why I seem reluctant to get out there!? Haha. Nah, I could get one here but we think I may get a special deal on a wettie when we get to NZ from a mate so I have to hold back on buying one.. Need to toughen up and stop being a wuss!! SHEESH, hard life.

Pak Uang (Craig) and his girl Anne were here this week so we stayed a night down with them in Coolangatta which was cool. So had not 1, but 2 guys laughing at me in the surf! Hah, not really, but yeah, pretty much. Otherwise, not much else happenin. Same old story on the Goldie - bleach blondes, plastic boobs, fast cars, personalised plates & way too much money but we’re lovin’ the sun & surf! Wicked to see the fam & anjings again too..Ma & Pa Fougere are good, they're active and super-motivated as usual..Benji, at the ripe old age of 18 (that’s actually 95 human years!!) is fading fast but still got a sparkle in his eyes; oh he’s not going anywhere yet. Sprocket is just as mad & full of oodles of energy. I'm finding it hard to get up in the morning and thoughts of work have faded so much that I'm scared I won't be able to do it again!!! oh but I will..the money does not grow on trees.. Rich's ma is here too - Betty Boop! Both her and John were out here for a few weeks before we arrived and she stayed on an extra week to hang out with us! Very cool to catch up with them all..

What else? Oh, we didn't find thee place for the big ‘union’ fiesta yet in Bali but have a lot of material to read while we're here about villas, venues etc and have a lot more ideas now of what we DON'T want..which is a start..Not sure what we'll do next/where we'll live, thinking we might try and stick out 6 months here but still not sure. I'm guess we'll decide how we feel about this place over the next few weeks..

We fly from here to Port Douglas on the 3rd August for the Glen & Stacey wedding and then we're almost away for a month. A week up there, then NZ for a week, then Fiji for almost 2 weeks for Marg & Andy’s wedding. These may give us ideas too I suppose.. Still wanting to keep it reeeeeaaaal simple; yet it seems simplicity is complicating the matter - who would've thought??

Peace!

Very sad London news :-(

Just a quick update to say that we are both well.. we've been keeping up with the news as much as possible since receiving a sudden influx of texts last night to our phones with news of the bombs in London.. Indo, as most of you may know, is not the best for up-to-date info and they didn't even carry any story of it on the late international news last night.. but today some people have heard about it and you can see a few checking the news websites for info.

From the texts we have received it sounds like everyone we know is ok and not directly affected by what has happened.. We've both been incredibly sad since hearing about it, especially seeing as we have called London home for the last few years.. Our hearts go out to all of you over there and we hope your loved ones are safe too...

Take care of yourselves,

Love Nic and Rich xxx

Bali paradise!

We're not sure if we're getting old or if our priorities have just changed, but this time round in Bali we're here for the food!!! We arrived in to Kuta Monday afternoon (27th) and went straight to the old haunt Taman Sari Cottages on Poppies II. The reception isn't at the front anymore, it's all being renovated and they're going all fancy.. The pool area has all been re-done too & the good old trippy mushroom wall has gone to be replaced by a pretty cool pebbled wall with statues and cool night lights. It's looking very funky and I think it was probably about time. Usual staff still working there so always a smiley welcoming face which rocks! And of course they always ask (with slightly glazed expressions) about Miss Dewi & her latest whereabouts- nothing changes!!

So far I've checked out TJ's, Treehouse (sadly it's TOTALLY different), TUBES, Warung 96, Pub Bagus and Kopi Pot, but yet to go and have a feast at Aromas...saving the best til last..Don't worry Kat - I'll have a tempeh burger for ya. Kuta's still rockin, the bars still seem to go off but I'm not really diggin it anymore.. In fact, after a few years in London, I think partying is the last thing on our minds!

So...what else..Been keen to get out on the surf. We ummed & arred about buying some new surf boards out here but have decided against it now as Royal Brunei say they'll charge us $30US per kilo in overweight baggage!!! INSANE. Rich hired a board and went out just at Kuta the other day but it was super messy out there. We even went running on the beach one morning in prep for a day in the surf!!! Priorities have definitely swung right around..

I'm writing this update from Gili Trawangan, a little island off Lombok. Internet is uber slow so who knows if this will actually make it on to our page. So, we're out here doing our Advanced Open Water dive licence anyways with Manta Dive. Did 3 dives of an outrigger yesterday which were the Deep Dive to 30m, Navigation dive and the Night dive off Gili Meno which was awesome..There were about 6 of us with torchlights and we saw a very, very rare Flamboyant Cuttlefish that just hovered there and let us all check him out for ages; a HUGE Napoleon Wrass about 1.5m long!, black and white pipe fish, trumpet fish, angel fish and tonnes of other funky fishies. I'd also just like to say I am not a dive nerd, I had to be told what the fish were - honest!!! hehe.

We just have 2 more dives to do which we should've done today except Rich came down a little ill over night so we called it off..Bit of seafood poisioning I think, but he's on the mend now. So maybe we dive tomorrow! If not we may finish the course somewhere else..

Well that's all the news I think! We haven't bumped in to anyone we know, and don't know of anyone in Bali right now, fire me an email if you do and I'll go hunt them down. We'll be heading back to the mainland Tuesday I think and will stay on and drive around Bali a bit for another week checking out potential 'getting hitched' spots. On to Brunei on the 11th July, and Brisbane on the 12th to see the fam.

Over & out,
schnick x

Hot to trot till the candymans eyes pop!!

Here we are at the end of a 100% tourist style action packed week in Dubai... Its been awesome..

Dubai is crazy... You wouldnt think its a city in the middle east... maybe more like a Silicon Valley style city of America or something like that... Theres so much construction going on.. They work 24 hours on the roads and towers... theres something like 100 sky scrapers currently under construction right now... and thats on top of the massive hotels etc that we all see on the Dubai tourism stuff outside of Dubai... its mad!!

Anyway so weve been staying with some of Nic friends from school in Indo this week which has been super cool.. 1 night with Tara and Dave and the rest with Sarah and Hamad...THANKS DUDES!!...

And finally the action... we went on a Desert safari with Arabian Adventures..which rocked.. we were in a convoy of 24 GMC Yukons (Grunty 3 tonne 4wd beasts)... we ripped through the desert up and down huge sand dunes gettin sideways and dropping off close to 90 degree sand cornices... killer fun until someone loses a tyre!!.. which someone did... 1 car got a little too sideways on a big dune and the tyre popped off so we had a 15-20 min breather while they put it back on... then we continued on to watch the desert sunset, ride camels, eat a huge arabian feast at a desert beduin-style camp and smoke shishas under the stars.. very cool..

We also hit a water park this week called Wild Wadi's.. best we have ever seen... basically just lots of different water slides but they also had a wave pool and a couple of Flowriders which we had to have a rip on... Flowriders are a stationery wave that you can surf... good fun but queues hampered our abilities to get any good at it...its a pain if you take off on the wave then instantly crap out and fly off as you have to go line up again for another go...

Yesterday we went diving of the east coast of the UAE in the Indian Ocean with Underwater Unlimited.... it totally rocked... we saw massive schools of fish including barracudas, trumpet fish, puffer fish, lion and stone fishes.. we got lucky enough to see some turtles and also a medium sized black tip reef shark.. viz was good at about 10 metres.. not quite the 30m we were getting in Greece but the sealife definitely made up for it.

And last of all the heat!! how could i forget the heat... its constantly high 30's plus... usually something in the 40's... the water for diving was around 30-31 degress (like a warm bath... very weird and not so refreshing at times...).. fortunately theres AC everywhere we go...

ok.. this is like an uber long lupchoo update but we havent been getting much of a chance to keep it maintained.. we will get some more pics up very soon.. Now we're heading off to take an abra (small boat) across Dubai creek and go and investigate the Gold and Spice souks...more heat - argh!!

Crazy week in Ibiza!!

Well, we survived it..

A week on the gorgeous island of Ibiza, Spain, with 16 of us in a totally pimpin' mac daddy villa in the deserted north...First of all the drive in to our villa needs a mention... Literally a road running down the side of a cliff with views of the ocean as far as you can see..One wrong turn would put you in serious trouble so from the beginning it was decided that drivers needed to stay absolutely SOBER on any nights out... Funnily enough, it led to us not having many nights out of the villa!! hehehe.

We made it to a beach party on the Saturday night at the Jockey Club on Cala Jondal beach, DC10's on Monday during the day, Ibiza Town one night and the rest of the time was spent chillin' and partying at the villa...

Thanks to an awesome group of people and a killer villa, we were spoiled with seafood feasts, copious amounts of rioja, swim after swim after swim, a jacuzzi with views over the Med, flying foxes, treehouses, zen gardens & a private beach.. Ahhhhh....snorkeling with 'zebra' fish and sunning ourselves around the pool.. All in all a fabulous time and although it snapped us out of our chilled Greek zone, we loved seeing everyone again..Oh, oh! and the sunsets, how could I forget??

So thanks to Dewi, Jay, Sim, Bri, Mary, Dunc, Robbie, Jane, Steph, Arash, Emma, Pippa (Queen of Endurance), Barn, Sarah & Cathy we had a wicked time and wish you all the best until we see you again!! Sim& Bri, still chillin in Formentera, we're very jealous...And simpy's birthday today!! Happy Birthday big sis!!

Diving in Anti Paros!!

Well here we are, finally, no internet where we've been.. I think we have discovered the only comp on the whole island now!! So, we been chillin on this dot in the Med for 4 nights already now..Its a tiny island off of Paros, which is much bigger and more commercial.. only a quick 30 minute boat trip though but so much more low key and s-l-o-w....

Rich has just finished his Open Water course yesterday - woohoo!!! And so today we dove as buddies, yay! Down to an Italian wine cargo ship wrecked off the coast 50 years ago and visability was a fab 25 metres....Second dive of today was another reef nearby where we saw tonnes of Moray eels, went down to about 25m and were down for 35mins or so.. Awesome down there.. We're really getting in to it.. And so much more to come!! but not here, tomorrow is just for relaxing then we're off on another boat back to Athens for a 530am flight on Friday morning.. ughh..

But anyways, back to diving.. Also got to rip around on a DPV which was wicked! That's one of those James Bond type underwater propulsion things you hang on to and steer around.. fun stuff.. Our instructor was showing off doing spirals and crashed head first into the sand and sea weeds.. Island life is all about scooters, watching sunset, meandering down the little main street, drinking Mythos beer and eating lots of gyros (kebabs)..Can't get much better...

We missed a week though in the installments, that was when we were on Santorini island for 3 nights, before here. that was killer too, more scooting, volcanic beaches, sunsets to die for and a room for 20€ a night...Spinach and feta filos, more gyros (kebabs again!!), tsaziki and yummy bread.. A mammoth 9 hour ferry from Athens which kick started the whole trip *not to be repeated, it's pretty harsh* and sun sun sun!!! Most days are about 30 degrees, not a cloud in the sky.. But the wind at night is pretty chilly.. Lots of dogs running around, very friendly people and I don't know what else to say!

ps... we finaly found the internet but dont have the camera on us! doh!! so no pictures again... we have some rip snorters but ya'll will just have to wait..

bye bye... gyros time

SOLD!

Ahhh and so the sad day came when Rich and Nic had to say good bye to their faithful steed, Mr Pink..

Nothing but the best for our £300 wonder car. So with a sniffle and a tear we made him a pin up on ebay and waited for the magic to happen...After 4 days he was still only on £80 but we knew that someone out there would see the potential of the pink hornet & give him a happy home..

Next thing we know it's day 7, there's 26 people watching the auction, 10 bidding and he goes out under the thud of the hammer for a whopping £670! Double and more what we paid.. What a winner! Mr Pink, you were truly legendary and we will miss you..

May our next car be even half of what you were to us..

Adios pink beast...
